The safety of our runners is absolute paramount at our events and whilst we hope you never have to meet any of our first aid team, if you do you’ll be in safe hands. Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team has been responding to emergencies in the mountains and rural areas of Mid, South and West Wales and even beyond for more than 50 years. Founded in 1964 the Team is available 24 hours a day to the Police and Ambulance Service in response to 999 calls.
Western Beacons provides skilled and dedicated search and rescue all of which is provided by highly trained volunteers from all walks of life from doctors to plumbers and all paid for by donations. They have the capability to carry out Search and Rescue operations in remote and rough terrain from a fully equipped mobile incident control vehicle and two 4×4 rapid response vehicles. The team carries specialist cliff rescue, advance pre- hospital first aid, swift water and flood rescue equipment enabling the rescue of people from dangerous and hazardous locations. They support the Police in searching for missing walkers or vulnerable children and adults in rural, semi rural and even urban environments; ranging from Autistic children to elderly people with dementia. Western Beacons swift water and flood rescue ability is a Defra registered resource, meaning that the Team could be called upon to respond to flooding incidents across the United Kingdom at any time.
